Book Review: Better Homes & Gardens New Cook Book 1953 Classic Edition

I love pasta so much that I often wonder when pasta became such a popular dish in America.  It was definitely not in the 1950s.   In this entire cook book, there is no mention of "pasta".  So, you will definitely not find a recipe on how to make Garlic Shrimp Pasta in this cook book. But you will learn about what Americans used to cook and eat in the 1950s.  The interesting illustrations show how families looked so different back then, gone now are the days when stay home moms were all dressed up cooking for their families. I can only imagine how it's like to be in a world where home cook meals and the role of a home maker was taken so seriously.  I enjoy reading this book because reading about the instruction on how to slaughter a chicken and how to section and cook a rabbit really opens my eyes to see the past of America's home kitchens.  It's really fascinating to me. The meal planning section provides menu ideas that are very inspiring even for today.  I think this book is a valuable piece of the American History.

Book Review: Hollywood Sketchbook - A Century of Costume Illustration

This is a fantastic book about visual arts, movies and costume designs.  The book features hundreds of pages of beautiful and amazing costume design sketches that I had never seen before.  The creativity, imagination and the artistic talents of the featured costume designers are so inspiring.  This is a book for movie fans, aspiring fashion and costume designers and the people who love visual arts.  It's beautifully bounded in high quality paper. The print quality is superb.  I enjoy this book very much and I highly recommend it. It's a must have on the coffee table.

Book Review: Blue Dahlia - Nora Roberts

This story is a picture perfect romance. Nora Roberts had created a beautiful garden of love where romance and friendship bloom in the midst of exotic flowers. Although I prefer the author's earlier works where the characters were always involved in complex and suspenseful plots and dynamic mysteries, I still find this book's typical and old fashioned romance satisfying.  I'm just a little surprised that Nora Roberts somehow reverted back to the more simple and lovie-dovie stories that are often written by other authors like Debbie Macomber.  I would not know this book was written by Nora Roberts if not for the book cover.  This book is not my most favorite Nora Roberts' novel, but it's still an entertaining book for some restful reading.  The story is sweet, if one doesn't mind it to be lacking a little challenge for the characters.
