Book Review: Homeport

Wow, this book is truly fascinating!! The story was so entertaining that I couldn't put my book down. There was the sizzling romance, the exotic backdrops, the suspense, strong characters and most importantly, the intriguing plots that built up my curiosity throughout my reading and then surprised me at the very end.

This novel has all the elements that make it a best seller romance. The ending is also greatly satisfying. I had read so many stupid, cheesy, boring and lame romance fictions in the past that I was very skeptical when I picked this book up. But what a delightful surprise it gave me. Life is too short to be wasted on crappy romance novels that have no substance but plain stupid sex scenes. Reading this book, I truly got to escape into a totally exciting world and I learnt quite a lot about Italian arts, and the career of archaeometry. What makes Nora Roberts' novels becoming my favorites is her ability to write to entertain and also educate. (of course it's not intensive education from college, but I sure am more worldly after reading this book). I wish I had learnt about this author when I was a kid in Hong Kong, (she was already a successful author back then) cause her heroines always have very interesting careers. I just think that would have helped me in exploring my life's calling. Nora Robert did a great job in this novel.

Book Club Discussion 1: Question #4

Go to previous discussion question....

For Harrison, Nora is the epitome of the perfect woman. Hazel represents the same for Innes. Yet their respective encounters are relatively brief. What is it about these two women that the men find so compelling? Do you think the two men really know the objects of their desire?

My answer:

Both Nora and Hazel seemed to possess an attractive, slim and elegant physicque with quiet, subtle and intelligent demeanors. I think these were the qualities that both men found themselves attracted to. The fact that both Nora and Hazel seemed to be somewhat mysterious, and quietly defiant in terms of love seemed to intrique the two men a lot. I don't think the men in the story really knew the objects of their desire. They were just drawn to the women because of thier physical appearance and their being unavilable to them. For some reason, pepole always desire something that is beyond their reach.

If you are reading this book, please participate in this discussion by posting on your blog your answer and a link back to this post. Then put a comment below to let us know where your blog post is. My First Wedding: A Planner For Modern Couples

This book totally cracks me up!!! When I saw the cover of this book, I just couldn't resist buying it. This extremely funny book will give the engaged couple a lot of good laughs in every stage of their wedding planning. Besides being a book full of very entertaining wedding humors, it is actually a very informative step by step manual that can guide anyone who has no clue about what to do after the proposal, to actually pull off a wedding. I highly recommend this as a gift to any newly engaged couple. The book is filled with humorous cartoons just like the cover. It's a very witty wedding planner I truly enjoy. For those who are married and who had gone through all the wedding planning thing, this book will bring back a lot of nostalgia, that will make you laugh out loud at the stuff you had put yourself and your family through when you were a bridezilla... I find this wedding planner extremely entertaining and it definitely helps me relax and cool off during frustrating moments of the "getting married" process. The book begins with the following quote:

"Most young women think their wedding day will be the happiest day of their lives. Unfortunately for most of them, that will be true."
